Beyond Afterlife Book 1 edition by Willow Rose Children eBooks

I read the second book of this series, Serenity, first. As I said in that review, that could be a standalone book. However, reading this one first does clarify the second. What happened with Jason and his family. Why Meghan was allowed to see him. How the first year at the Academy went. All these things are explained here. Especially how Meghan meets Mick. All women need a Mick in their lives. I have this only four stars because it was not as textured as the second. I wasn't turning pages as fast. The beginning of a really great series can be like that as the author introduces you to the story, the characters, and the setting. I already know I will love books 3 & 4!

Beyond Afterlife Book 1 edition by Willow Rose Children eBooks Reviews

I found this book to be interesting on the new look at life after death on a whole.

I enjoyed the sweet building of possible romance with 2 main male characters although I find it a bit like twilight in that category with it. However the fact that one is in the afterlife already so not being "off limits" whereas the other being still among the living is added enough difference to no mirror image it.

I also like the way the author shows that even after death our choices and thoughts can lead to being sent to the books version of a hell and that it shows that the afterlife isn't all roses and singing birds and etc.

And last but not least I enjoyed the authors creativity and ability to make the story unfold mentally as well.

One downside is that it seemed to end so soon however I happily have the next 2 books of the series to read next )

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a ya fantasy romance style book regardless of age be it younger than 13 or older than 50 it is an enjoyable read!
This was an interesting book. It kind of reminded me of Harry Potter, except the characters are all spirits. They have to attend a school for spirits to learn about their new lives. The main character soon finds out why it is forbidden to have contact with humans. Great series, I'm interested to read the next one.
The book has an interesting concept... the idea of spiritual beings in training. I couldn't tell a couple times if the author was wanting to pay homage to other stories by making nods at them (such as Harry Potter) or if she didn't realize she was so heavily influenced by a couple of books that she practically copied some plot points (mostly minor things). I enjoyed the book but I don't know if I will be able to recommend it to many people. Since I have already purchased the next two books in the series, I will be reading them and perhaps the series will continue to improve.
This series is great! Just know that each story begins with death. Megan is 16 yrs old when she dies. She wakes on a flying steamboat which takes her to school which is run by angels at a castle. On the trip she meets Mick whose been dead for more than 100 years. However, he's still looking like a teenager. He helps her learn about the afterlife and helps her learn about the magical powers she will have. This novel is a Young Adult Paranormal Romance which adults will also enjoy. You'll soon learn that every book Willow Rose creates is breathtaking. Enjoy the trip to almost heaven!
I really like this book. I agree with some of the lower ratings I saw because they were accurate. The writing was choppy with conversations almost sounding like robots communicating. I noticed the similarity to Hogwarts which does lack originality. I also found the way the justice system dealt with the crime at the end to be over the top, with the results far worse than I expected. I'm not saying this couldn't happen, but it felt like the author was trying to create tragedy with results that were somewhat outdated. Self defense is noticed in cases like this, especially when someone is beaten within an inch of their life and a tiny woman going up against a large violent man would require more than just her fists. That being said, why did I love this book? I loved the message it sent to me which I am not going to tell you, you have to read the book. I'd love to read the rest of the series at some point, I just hope that the author could write with a little more flow, and make the tragedy and results a little more believable.
Fortunately, I believe that there is an Afterlife so it was very easy for me to believe it is like this book, although I was a bit surprised at the amount of trouble that Meghan managed to get herself into. I was also surprised that girls could be catty in the afterlife, I really thought things would have evolved more than that. Very interesting concepts though, and after reading this I bought the box set of three as I have to follow Meghan's life now. I am voluntarily reviewing this book after the author gifted me a copy and I must say it is well worth the read. Quite a departure from this author's usual genre, but very welcome.
This book is a lot like Harry Potter, right down to the beds, it was a little scary. But since I love HP I'm not holding it against the author.
And some of the lines in the book were hilarious. Very dry sense of humor.
And the whole eating anything and everything without gaining weight, best part of the book.
Unfortunately, it's hard to like any of the characters because you don't get much of their back history, and you won't until the end, I guess. Although, the two ghosts that do remember their background, I think are definitely the more interesting ones.
Problem is, I won't be continuing with this series. It has a great concept, and good potential characters, but for some reason I couldn't get behind why the main character was focused on helping out Jason so much. I know his story was really sad, and that should be reason enough. It's just that he didn't have any personality so I'm not sure why she would fall for him. And I'm hesitant about Mick, he has more character, but seems too self centered to get into a relationship.
Also, it was obvious from the beginning that Portia was not going to win the fight between good vs. evil. And even after she left, the students couldn't admit that she was a bad influence and everything seemed better after she was gone? They were too focused on missing her, why? She didn't do anything that was at all redeemable.
