With the recent headline controversies over the use of vaccines, Maybe Baby, presents a future world shaped by vaccines. But, it is the protagonist, Mia, who carries this engrossing novel by Diana Helmer. Mia's innocence, trusting nature, insecurity, and scarred upbringing have given her a will of steel that creates tension, suspense, and excitement. I agree with the other reviewers, the brevity left me wanting more.
I really liked the shape of the characters in this book and especially the main character of Mia. She is a believable 16-yr old girl with the same crazy thoughts that everyone has at that age and I could easily identify with her.
The story line started somewhat innocently, but took you to unexpected turns. Well written with believability. I can see this story continue with other books that I hope this author considers doing.
A very interesting concept and brilliant story line! Maybe Baby is a futuristic story about 16 year old Mia, who in this world will never be able to conceive a child, just like everyone else. The world is crafted in a believable way that something like this is actually possible! (as scary thought for any would be mothers out there). However Mia's circumstance and world will change in a dramatic way...
The book is a short but interesting read and has great twists and turns, but does leaving some things unanswered..

Maybe Baby is a story set in a futuristic world where children have all but disappeared. Mia, a young, independent teenage woman, lives with the daily knowledge that she will never have children of her own. To her and to the people around her, this is a fact of everyday life.
But not everyone is willing to accept this harsh reality. Unbeknownst to Mia, mysterious plans have been put to action that suddenly draw her into a series of events that turn her world upside down. Everything she thought she knew about the world, herself and her friends, is going to change.
The author does a good job of creating a believable set of circumstances that drives the story in this futuristic world. The main character is likable and her struggle both believable and captivating.
The supporting cast have unique personalities and reasonable motives. Yet, many mysteries also remain, as the reader is not privy to their true thoughts. The book has its share of story-line twists and turns that can leave the reader intrigued and guessing at the outcome. The book is also filled with good humor and has numerous funny moments where the characters of this future world reference current, modern day topics, relevant to us now.
Unfortunately, the book does suffer somewhat from its lack of length, which really leaves the reader begging for more. But that is a good kind of downside.
Definitely worth a read.
It's been a long time since I have read a book I didn't want to put down. "Maybe Baby" was a riveting read with a futuristic concept so believable that I didn't want to stop reading!
